Charles Harry, director of the Center for Governance of Technology and Systems (GoTech) at the University of Maryland, recently participated in a panel discussion focused on IT governance in the federal space.
The panel spoke at the (UMD alumni-founded) Crooked Crab Brewery, just a ten-minute drive from Fort Meade, home of U.S. Cyber Command. Topics discussed included the interdependence of technical systems and new threat landscapes inherent to emerging technologies.
“We talked a lot about new emerging technologies like 5G. How do you not only take advantage of that technology, but then how do you govern? How do you understand strategic risk?" said Harry. "The ability to connect the technology to the human process and assess the effects is at the heart of better strategic defense.”
The event was organized by UMD’s Robert H. Smith School of Business as part of the Smith Near You program. Smith Near You aims to stimulate conversations between stakeholders in academia, government and the business community about public-private innovation.
